STATE COLLEGE, PA - John Kilichowski and Dewin Perez combined for the State College Spikes' first shutout victory of the 2016 season as the Spikes topped the Auburn Doubledays, 3-0, on Friday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

The win enabled the Spikes to clinch their best start after 21 games in franchise history, with the best record in the New York-Penn League at 15-6.

Kilichowski (1-0), in his third professional appearance and second start, went a career-long five innings on the hill. The 11th-round draft choice of the Cardinals out of Vanderbilt in 2016, Kilichowski yielded five hits and two walks while recording three strikeouts. The southpaw also struck out three batters as he delivered 60 pitches, 38 for strikes.

Perez (1) followed with four innings of two-hit ball, striking out three batters. The Colombian left-hander also gave up a walk, but retired the last seven batters he faced en route to his first save of the year.

State College got on the board in the first inning thanks to Ryan McCarvel's RBI single. The Spikes then added insurance runs in the seventh when Jeremy Martinez's infield single and a subsequent Auburn (12-9) error scored a pair.

Vince Jackson was the only Spike with multiple hits, including a double.

Doubledays starter A.J. Bogucki (0-1) drew the loss in his first professional start. Bogucki, the Nationals' 2016 eighth-round draft choice out of North Carolina, yielded a run on four hits and a hit batsman while striking out four.

The Spikes and Doubledays now meet on Saturday for the middle game of their three-game set at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. State College will send right-hander Carson Cross (1-2) to the hill for the 7:05 p.m. matchup. Auburn will counter with left-hander Yonathan Ramirez (2-0).
