Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
BROOKLYN, NY - July 8, 2016 - If a game at MCU doesn't end in extra innings, it starts with a rain delay. After an hour and 15 minute delay, a scheduled 7:00 P.M first pitch was thrown at 8:15, where the dreary weather proved to be foreshadowing for the Brooklyn bats, as the Renegades shutout the Cyclones 2-0 on Friday.
Hudson Valley collected the first run of the game at the top of the second, when a single ground ball to centerfield from Danny De La Calle brought Angel Perez to score letting the Renegades take an early 1-0 lead on an unearned run.
RHP Gabriel Llanes started on the mound for the Cyclones for his fifth time this season, allowing the one run and just five hits in 6.0 innings pitched and striking out three. The Cyclones have allowed 11 unearned runs this season, with eight of them coming with Llanes on the mound.
The game would remain 1-0, as the teams traded zeros for six innings before the Renegades added to their lead in the top of the eighth when Bill Pujols stole second and later scored on a single ground ball to left field from Nathaniel Lowe.
LHP Gabriel Feliz, RHP Gary Cornish, and RHP Joseph Zanghi tossed a combined 3.0 innings in relief giving up only one run in the top of the eighth, but it was not enough as Brooklyn collected just one hit, a fourth inning single from Jacob Zanon.
The Cyclones will look to rebound with a win tomorrow as they take on Hudson Valley once again for the second game of the series tomorrow July 9 with the first pitch is scheduled for 6:00 P.M.
