Frederick Keys News Release

After collecting five hits over two games in Friday night's double-header, the Frederick Keys offense exploded for eight runs on ten hits Saturday evening, as they defeated the Salem Red Sox 8-3.

Keys RHP Pedro Beato got the start, and found himself in a little trouble early on. Salem 2B Kris Negron led the game off with a double. He later scored on a two-bagger from C Luis Exposito, giving the Red Sox a 1-0 lead.

That's the last lead Salem would have. Frederick tied the game in the bottom half of the first. SS Pedro Florimon doubled and later scored on C Caleb Joseph's RBI single to tie the game at one.

The Keys took the lead for good in the bottom of the second. With runners on first and second and one down, CF Matt Angle knocked un arun with a single to right, giving the Keys a 2-1 lead. They weren't done. Florimon then doubled into the left-center field gap, scoring two, and making it a 4-1 ball game.

Frederick tacked on another insurance run in the fourth. With one on and two down, 1B Brandon Waring cracked his ninth homerun of the year, a high soaring drive to left. The round-tripper gave Frederick a 6-1 lead.

Both teams would score two more times before the evening was over. Beato went six innings and allowed two earned on four hits, while walking a season-high six. He struck out two, as he picked up his fourth win of the season. RHP Dave McKae took the loss, he's now 1-3.

Florimon ended up going 2-4, with a couple doubles, a walk two runs scored and three RBI. Each of Florimon's past five hits have been doubles.

The Keys will try to even the series to two games apiece tomorrow afternoon at Harry Grove Stadium, in the finale of this four-game set. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00. It's Sunday Family Fun-Day at the ballpark. Make sure to bring your ball and glove because you can play catch on the field before the game.
