Salem Red Sox News Release

Frederick, MD - Pedro Beato limited Salem to four hits and two runs over six strong innings as Frederick erased an early 1-0 deficit to take down the Red Sox 8-3 on Saturday evening at Harry Grove Stadium. The Keys scored at least one run in five of the first six innings, including three in the second and two in the fourth. After the Keys recorded just five hits over 17 innings in the doubleheader yesterday, Frederick totaled ten base knocks off Salem pitching, eight off starter Dave McKae in the first four innings.

The Keys chased McKae-making his first start since May 27-in the last of the fourth inning. With two outs, Brandon Waring blasted a two run homer that made the score 6-1 and sent McKae out of the game. Jose Capellan made his first appearance of the season out of the bullpen and struggled mightily with his command, walking six batters in an inning and two-thirds on the hill. Salem's Ryne Miller pitched the final two and two thirds innings without allowing a run.

Pedro Florimon went 2-4 with two doubles and three RBI for the Keys, while Matt Angle and Robbie Widlansky each recorded multiple hits as well. After Beato struggled in the first, he settled down to retire eight out of the next nine batters. Although he also walked a season-high six batters, the Red Sox were just 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left 10 runners on base.

Kris Negron was the only Red Sock who recorded multiple hits, going 2-4 with a walk and a run scored in defeat. Jason Place took two walks, but went 0-3 as his 12-game hit streak came to a close.

The Red Sox and Keys meet for the final time in the first half on Sunday afternoon, a 2:00 PM start, with Zach Britton opposing Bryan Price on the hill.
