Frederick Keys News Release
Myrtle Beach, SC - A fourth inning wild pitch with the bases loaded scored the only tally of the game, as Myrtle Beach salvaged a game with a 1-0 win Wednesday night at TicketReturn.com Field. The Keys finish the road trip with a 6-2 record.
The only run scored in the fourth against Keys starter Matthew Grimes. Yasiel Balaguert worked a one-out walk and advanced to second after Jason Vosler reached on error by Cam Kneeland. Grimes (7-4) issued a base on balls to Jeffrey Baez with two outs, and with the bases loaded, spiked the first pitch to Daniel Spingola past Jonah Heim for a wild pitch and 1-0 Myrtle Beach lead.
Grimes tossed five innings, allowed four hits, one unearned run, walked two, and struck out six.
Jake Stinnett was a step ahead all night, as he tied a season-high by lasting seven innings. Stinnett (5-3) allowed back-to-back singles to Erick Salcedo and Wynston Sawyer in the first, but induced a double play.
The Keys placed two on base with one away in the fourth inning after Bierfeldt doubled and Kneeland walked. However, Jomar Reyes lined out to right field and Heim struck out to keep the Keys scoreless. In the fifth inning, the orange and black had runners on first and second with one gone, but another twin killing wiped things clean.
The best chance of the game for the visitors came in the final inning against Stinnett, who gave up eight hits, walked two, and struck out seven. Heim and T.J. Olesczuk recorded base hits, and with two outs, Jay Gonzalez earned a walk. Again, the Keys couldn't convert, as Salcedo bounced out. Ryan McNeil (5) went six up, six down for the save.
The bullpen arms for the Keys impressed. Tanner Scott struck out all six batters he faced, and the 'Birds whiffed eight straight times from the fifth to seventh innings. Tanner Chleborad allowed one hit in a scoreless inning.
The Keys return home to wrap up the first half against the Lynchburg Hillcats on Thursday night at 7 p.m. RHP Cory Jones (2-2, 3.10) throws for the Keys against Hillcats RHP Julian Merrweather (7-2, 0.98). The broadcast can be heard on 1450 AM The Source and frederickkeys.com.
