WILMINGTON, Del. - In a 14-inning contest at Frawley Stadium, the Dash fell 3-2 on Tuesday against Wilmington on a walk-off single by Humberto Arteaga.

With runners on first and second and two outs in the 14th inning and the score tied at two, Arteaga bounced a game-winning single to center off Dash reliever Jacob Morris (0-2) to drive in pinch-runner Robert Pehl. The Carolina League All-Star was 0-for-6 prior to that at-bat.

Tuesday's affair tied for the second-longest game in the Dash era (2009-present). The only contest that lasted longer was May 20, 2010 against Myrtle Beach, when Winston-Salem won 4-3 in a 20-inning game in the first year of BB&T Ballpark's existence. With the loss, Winston-Salem (25-40) falls to 2-3 in extra-inning games and 15-19 on the road.

After both teams went scoreless through the first two innings, the Dash went ahead in the third off Wilmington starter Foster Griffin. Brett Austin led off the inning with a double and Zach Fish, in just his second start since getting called up from Low-A Kannapolis on May 26, roped an RBI single down the right field line to give the Dash a 1-0 edge.

Later in the inning with bases loaded and one-out, Gerson Montilla smacked a sacrifice fly to put the Dash up two. The Dash third baseman leads the Carolina League with eight sacrifice flies. Griffin ended his night tossing seven innings, while allowing six hits and two earned runs.

Unfortunately for Winston-Salem, the Blue Rocks (23-39) bullpen was exceptional. The trio of Jacob Bodner, Derek Gordon, and Brennan Henry (1-0) threw seven scoreless innings. Gordon and Henry combined to retire the last 15 batters Dash hitters.

For the third straight start, Dash starter Thad Lowry was dominant. The Dash right-hander struck out five batters in seven strong innings, with his lone blemish coming on a two-out, RBI single by Austin Bailey in the seventh inning to made it a 2-1 contest. In his last three outings, Lowry is 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA.

Kelvis Valerio relieved Lowry and after a scoreless eighth ran into some trouble in the ninth. After giving up a leadoff single to Elier Hernandez, the Dash right-hander made an errant throw on a pickoff attempt that allowed Hernandez to advance to third. With runners on first and third and one out, Baliey drove in Hernandez on a sacrifice fly to tie the game at two.

Valerio, who is now 1-for-3 in save opportunities, ended his night throwing three innings and allowing one (unearned run) while striking out four.

Connor Walsh came in for Valerio and tossed three scoreless frames, setting a season-high in innings. Tuesday's affair lasted three hours and 45 minutes.

The Dash round out their three-game set against the Blue Rocks and their seven-game road trip on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. Winston-Salem sends Jordan Stephens (1-7, 4.68 ERA) to the bump against Wilmington right-hander Zach Lovvorn (0-6, 3.54 ERA). The Pregame Dash begins at 6:20 p.m., and fans can tune in on wsdash.com/broadcast or the TuneIn Radio App.

Winston-Salem returns to BB&T Ballpark on Thursday, June 16, for a four-game set against the Salem Red Sox to conclude the season's first half. Thursday's series opener is another Throwback Thursday, presented by Parr Investments, that will feature commemorative Warthogs jerseys.
