Winston-Salem Dash News Release

Winston-Salem, NC - For the second consecutive night, the Dash just needed to win to clinch the first-half title in the Southern Division. And for the second consecutive night, the Dash suffered a 4-0 loss. This time it was at the hands of the Frederick Keys, who blanked Winston-Salem (33-29) in the series opener on Monday night at Wake Forest Baseball Park. The Wilmington Blue Rocks also defeated the Dash by the same score on Sunday evening.

Frederick starting pitcher Kenny Moreland (1-0) tossed five shutout innings and held the Dash to three hits and did not allow a walk to earn the win. The Keys bullpen did the rest as Brian Parker worked three innings and allowed one hit with four strikeouts. Closer Luis Lebron recorded the final three outs to collect his 10th save of the season.

The Keys broke open a scoreless game with a pair of runs against Dash starting pitcher Daniel Hudson in the top of the fourth inning. Caleb Joseph singled with one out and Robbie Widlansky followed with a double to put runners on second and third. Tyler Henson then lined a two-run double down the left field line to give Frederick a 2-0 lead.

The Keys added two more runs in the eighth inning against newly inserted reliever Hector Santiago. Matt Angle led off with a bunt single and moved to second base on a throwing error by Santiago. One out later, Brandon Waring walked and Joseph contributed an RBI single. Widlansky followed with a run-scoring double to put Frederick in front 4-0.

Hudson (4-3) went seven strong innings for the Dash and surrendered two runs on five hits. He matched his season-high with eight strikeouts, but suffered the loss.

The Dash and Keys continue their three-game series on Tuesday night at Wake Forest Baseball Park. Winston-Salem will send RHP Anthony Carter (5-3, 4.24) to the mound, while Frederick is expected to turn to RHP Sean Gleason (0-1, 6.35). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
