Kinston Indians News Release
Since We've Been Gone - On May 9th the K-Tribe had just won a season high four straight games and stood atop the Carolina League Southern Division by two games with a 17-13 record. Then the K-Tribe suffered through a season high eight game losing streak (nine after a suspended game was picked up later). Five of Kinston's last six losses in the streak were by one run with the other loss coming by two runs in extra innings. The K-Tribe finished the month of May with an 11-17 record, tied with Myrtle Beach for the worst record in the month. After winning 4 of 5 games and pulling within ½ of first place in the Southern Division, Kinston went 1-6 to begin June. All together Kinston put together a 6-21 record from May 9th to June 8th.
Star Struck - The K-Tribe trio of Eric Berger, Cord Phelps and Lonnie Chisenhall will head to California for the All-Star Game next week. Berger and Phelps both grew up in the Golden State.
Northern Exposure- Kinston is a lowly 10-22 vs. Northern Division opponents this season and just 5-14 at home vs. Northern Division foes.
A Hard First Half - This will be the first season since 2003 that the K-Tribe will not have a winning record in the first half. Kinston won the first half in the Southern Division four straight seasons from 2004 through 2007.
Playoffs? - Kinston set a Carolina League record by qualifying for the CL playoffs for seven straight seasons from 2001 through 2007.
Proud Past - Over the last 16 seasons the K-Tribe has the best winning percentage of any team in Minor League Baseball.
