Frederick Keys News Release

Frederick, MD - The Carolina League has named Frederick Keys centerfielder and everyday leadoff hitter Matt Angle as the Carolina League Player of the Week for the week of June 8th to June 14th. Angle batted .417 (10-for-24) with three runs scored and five RBI's.

Angle began his first Carolina League season slowly but has fought back to drive the Keys offense as its everyday leadoff hitter. Since batting .203 in the month of April, Angle has batted .348 in his last 36 games. He comes into the final road trip of the first half of the season with his average at .297. That is the highest it has been since the second game of the season.

A product of Ohio State, Angle was selected by the Orioles in the 7th round of the 2007 draft. Always highly touted for his outstanding play as a defender, Angle has batted .291 over his first two professional seasons. He has also been in the top-3 in his league in walks in each of his first two seasons.

Angle is near the top of the line in many categories in the Carolina League batting .297 (7), with an on-base percentage of .381 (4) and 18 steals (4). He is the lone Frederick Key with multiple four-hit games as Angle has done so three times in 2009.
