
Kernels take series finale, 9-5, over Lugnuts

April 13, 2008 - The Cedar Rapids Kernels scored nine runs and pounded out 10 hits en route to a 9-5 win over the Lansing Lugnuts Sunday afternoon at Dale and Thomas Popcorn Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Jeremy Moore was 4 for 4 with and only a home run away from hitting for the cycle and Jay Brossmasn extended his hitting streak to 10 games by going 2 for 4 with a double and RBI. Andrew Romine drove in two runs and scored twice and increased his league-leading stolen base total to seven.
The Kernels roughed up Lansing starter Luis Perez (0-1) for five runs on three hits over three innings. Perez also issued five walks as the Kernels drew seven free passes on the day.
Kernels starter Trevor Reckling (1-0) allowed a run on three hits and struck out four over five innings to earn his first win of the season.
The win improves the Kernels record to 5-5 as Lansing falls to 7-3.
Cedar Rapids now opens a three game series with the Great Lakes Loons, starting Monday, April 14th at 6:30 pm. It will be a Mix 96.5 FM Belly Buster Monday where fans can enjoy all you can eat hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and peanuts for just $7, plus the cost of a ticket. Gates open at 5:30 pm.
