Dayton Dragons News Release

Appleton, Wisc.-Jake Long went 3 for 3 with a run scored and a run batted in to lead the Dayton Dragons to a 3-1 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in the second game of a doubleheader on Sunday. The win gave the Dragons a split of the doubleheader after Wisconsin won the first game 4-1.

Dragons pitchers Matt Klinker (1-0) and Enerio Del Rosario combined to limit the Timber Rattlers to just five hits in game two. Klinker, in his first start of the season, earned the win. He went five innings and allowed five hits and an unearned run with one walk and four strikeouts. Del Rosario retired all six batters he faced over the final two innings to earn his third save.

The Dragons took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Michael McKennon doubled and scored on Long's single to right-center field. Wisconsin scored in the third to tie the game, but the Dragons jumped back ahead in the fifth when Long singled, went to second on an error, advanced to third on Jake Kahaulelio's sacrifice, and scored on Wisconsin pitcher Nathan Adcock's throwing error to make it 2-1.

In the seventh, Dayton scored again when Denis Phipps doubled to left-center, went to third on Long's single to left, and scored on Kahaulelio's sacrifice fly to make it 3-1.

In the first game, Wisconsin broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the third inning. Alex Liddi's two-out single to right brought in Calvin Beamon to break the tie, and Joe Dunigan followed with an RBI double to make it 3-1. Wisconsin added one more run in the fifth, and the Timber Rattlers relief corps shutout the Dragons over the final two innings of the seven inning game to close it out.

The Dragons only run in game one came on Brandon Menchaca's two-out, run-scoring single in the second inning.

Dragons starting pitcher Curtis Partch (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing nine hits and four runs in four and two-thirds innings. He struck out three and walked no one.

The Dragons are 6-4 on the season after the split. They are tied for second place, one game behind Lansing, in the Midwest League's Eastern Division.

The Dragons will meet the Beloit Snappers in the opener to a three game series on Monday at 7:30 p.m. Scott Carroll (0-1, 5.19) will start for Dayton.

Notes: The Dragons bullpen has allowed runs in only one of the last six games...Brandon Waring extended his hitting streak to nine straight games in the first game of the doubleheader but went 0 for 3 in the nightcap. Todd Frazier's hitting streak ended at eight straight games in game two when he went 0 for 3.
