Burlington Bees News Release

Burlington, IA (April 13, 2008) The Burlington Bees wrapped up a three-game series Sunday afternoon with the Great Lakes Loons. The Bees, who won the first two games of the series, were not able to complete the sweep as they lost 1-0.

Recent cold weather has had a profound impact on the bats for the Bees and that was once again the case Sunday as they were only able to muster four hits.

The only run of the game scored in the third inning for the Loons. With two outs and nobody on base, Joseph Becker singled. Jovanny Rosario then tripled to score Becker from first base. The Loons could have scored more in the inning but a diving catch by centerfielder David Lough, which resulted in a double-play, saved at least two runs.

The Bees put runners in scoring position in both the seventh and ninth innings but were not able to come up with the big hit to drive them home to tie the game.

Pitching was once again spectacular for the Bees. Juan Abreu was tagged with a loss but only gave up one run on six hits with four strikeouts in six innings of work. Zach Peterson pitched the final three innings and did not give up a hit.

The Bees will welcome the Lansing Lugnuts to Community Field for a three-game series beginning on Monday. Staff ace Danny Gutierrez will get the start for the Bees. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30. The game can be heard on 1490 KBUR. Tickets are still available by logging onto www.GoBees.com or calling (319) 754-5705.
