August 1, 2008 - The Cedar Rapids Kernels snapped a 10 game losing streak to the Clinton LumberKings with a 4-2 victory in front of a season-high 5,004 fans on AEGON Night at Dale and Thomas Popcorn Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday night.

Andrew Romine was 4 for 4 with three runs scored and two stolen bases and Julio Perez had a 2 run double in the first inning as the Kernels led the entire game. Jay Brossman was 1 for 4 with an RBI and Jeremy Moore was 1 for 4 with a double and run scored.

Kernels starter Michael Davitt (4-7) allowed two runs on eight hits, walked five and struck out five for his second win in as many starts. Naldy Calderon and Ysmael Carmona combined for five strikeouts over 2.2 scoreless innings and Eddie McKiernan struck out two in the ninth for his 15th save.

Clinton starter Jorge Quintero (5-6) allowed four runs on eight hits and struck out four over five innings for the loss. Engel Beltre was 3 for 5 with a double and RBI for the LumberKings.

Game two of this three game series is Saturday night at 7 pm. Fans can enjoy a spectacular post-game fireworks show presented by Alliant Energy and KWWL and the Kernels welcome fans from St. Luke's and Independence for their night at the stadium. Gates open at 6 pm.
