Dragons Lose Big in Quad Cities

Davenport, Iowa-Aaron Luna drilled two home runs and drove in five runs as the Quad Cities River Bandits pounded the Dayton Dragons 18-0 on Friday night. The 18-run losing margin was the worst ever recorded in Dragons history, surpassing the old record of 16 set April 30, 2000 when they fell 19-3 to West Michigan. The loss dropped the Dragons to 24-17 in the second half. They are 2-2 on their current six game road trip.

The River Bandits scored six runs in the second inning against Dragons starting pitcher Daniel Guerrero (0-3). Luna drilled a three-run home run to left field with no one out to give the River Bandits the lead. With two outs, D'Marcus Ingram delivered a run-scoring double, and Adron Chambers followed with a two-run home run to make it 6-0.

Quad Cities added three more runs against Guerrero in the fifth extend to open a 9-0 lead. Guerrero left the game after four and one-third innings, allowing eight hits and nine earned runs with one walk and three strikeouts to suffer the loss.

Luna added a solo homer in the seventh against Dragons reliever Steven Otterness to make it 10-0.

Quad Cities added eight runs in the eighth against Dragons reliever Derrick Conatser.

Quad Cities starting pitcher Richard Castillo (6-1) tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing five hits with no walks and seven strikeouts for the win.

The Dragons are 17-6 over their last 23 games. They are in second place, two games out of first, and lead the Eastern Division wildcard race by four games over Fort Wayne.

The Dragons meet the River Bandits on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. (EDT). Luis Montano (11-6, 3.97) will start for Dayton.
