Kernels rally comes up short in 5-3 loss to River Bandits

The Cedar Rapids Kernels came up two runs short in a 5-3 loss to the Quad Cities River Bandits on Sunday afternoon at Modern Woodman Park in Davenport. Alexi Amarista was 2 for 4 with an RBI and Roberto Lopez drove in a run on a sac fly as the Kernels finish a six game road trip at 1-5.

Kernels starter Tyler Chatwood (1-2) allowed four runs on five hits, walked three and struck out seven over six innings in taking the loss. Mike Kohn and Vladimir Veras combined for two innings of relief out of the bullpen. Hector Cardenas (3-1) picked up the win in relief of starter Kevin Thomas and Scott McGregor struck out three over an inning for his eighth save.

Chris Swauger went 3 for 4 with a HR and 3 RBI for Quad Cities and Osvaldo Morales was 2 for 4 with two doubles and 2 RBI.

The Kernels have a day off on Monday and open a four game series with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, the Midwest League affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, on Tuesday, May 12th.
