South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
South Bend, IN - The South Bend Silver Hawks saw their five game winning streak come to an end Sunday afternoon as the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers posted the 4-1 victory at Coveleski Stadium. With the victory, Wisconsin snapped a nine-game road losing streak and earned their first win away from home this season.
South Bend starter Wade Miley (LP, 1-2) set a new season high for the longest outing for a pitcher, going 8.0 innings but suffering the defeat. Miley allowed four runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking one.
Wisconsin scored two runs against Miley in both the second and third innings. In the second, Michael Voss had a two run single to put the Timber Rattlers out in front 2-0. The lead was extended to 4-0 in the third on an RBI triple from Jose Duran and a sacrifice fly from Brett Lawrie.
Daniel Meadows (WP, 4-0) made his first start of the year for Wisconsin after their scheduled starter was scratched with an injury. Meadows was sharp over 5.0 innings, allowing just three hits while striking out five and holding the Silver Hawks scoreless.
South Bend scored their lone run in the seventh against reliever Brandon Ritchie (ND). Justin Parker hit a slow roller up the third base line, which he beat out for an infield single. Ritchie fielded the ball and still threw towards first, missing his target with the ball ending up down the right field line. Parker went all the way to third on the error. Parker scored one batter later when Rossmel Perez grounded out.
Both Parker and Perez extended hitting streaks in the game for South Bend. Parker's streak is now at 13 games, while Perez has hit safely in 10 straight. Isaias Asencio went two-for-three at the plate, as he and Perez were the only Hawks with a multi-hit game.
After an off day Monday, the Silver Hawks continue the home stand with four games against the Lansing Lugnuts beginning Tuesday night at 6:30 PM. An interesting pitching matchup will feature RHP Ryan Cook (4-0, 2.61 ERA) for the Silver Hawks against RHP Ryan Koch (pronounced "cook", 0-2, 7.71 ERA) for Lansing. Pregame coverage begins at 6:10 PM on 1620 AM WPNT "The Point" and online at www.silverhawks.com.
