
Kernels fall to LumberKings, 7-3

Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
The Cedar Rapids Kernels are 0-2 in the month of May as they fell to the Clinton LumberKings, 7-3, in front of 879 fans at Alliant Energy Field in Clinton on Wednesday night.
Four of the Kernels nine hits were for extra bases including doubles by Mark Trumbo, Julio Perez and Chris Pettit and a two-run home run by Hank Conger in the top of the second inning, his fourth HR of the season.
Wilberto Ortiz drove in the third and final Kernels run in the top of the ninth on an RBI single.
Kernels starter Blake Holler (0-1) gave up eight hits and five runs (four earned) in three innings pitched. He struck out four and gave up one HR, a two-run shot to John Whittleman in the bottom of the third inning.
Clinton starter Glenn Swanson gave the Kernels five hits and two runs over six innings to improve to 4-1. Swanson also struck out eight and walked one.
The loss drops the Kernels to 12-10. Clinton improves to 14-10.
The Kernels play one more game with the LumberKings at Alliant Energy Field on Thursday before returning home to Veterans Memorial Stadium on Friday, May 4th to host the Swing of the Quad Cities for a four game series.
