London Rippers News Release

LONDON, ONTARIO - Eric Katzman threw a no-hitter through 5.1 innings; leading the charge in London's (13-15) 7-5 win over Washington (11-16).

Katzman (1-2) had walked 12 in his last two starts but tonight walked one through 7 innings, allowing three runs and five hits.

"It's a mental game. My stuff is going to be my stuff, but it's how you approach it." Katzman says, "People who are good at this game have to make adjustments and I was able to tonight."

Jim Vahalik got London their first run of the game on a sacrifice fly in the 2nd inning, lifting the Rippers up 1-0.

The sac fly was relevant again in the 2nd as both Mark Samuelson and Zach Larson had bases loaded RBI sac flies, increasing London's lead to 3-0.

The Rippers opened the 5th inning with back-to-back doubles by Joash Brodin and Mark Samuelson, for Samuelson's second RBI of the game and London took a 4-0 lead.

In the 6th, Brodin welcomed new Washington pitcher, Shawn Smith with a two run homer into the bushes in left field, opening a 7-0 Rippers' advantage.

However, Washington made it a game with three runs in the 8th , chasing Katzman, and two more in the 9th before Andrew Chilcoat struck out Tim Leary to end the game.

London and Washington will play Game 2 of this three-game series tomorrow night at Labatt Park. Game time is 6:30pm. London's Matt Schimpf (2-1 3.38) gets the ball against Eric Blackwell (1-2 9.24) for the Wild Things.
