River City Rascals News Release

Evansville, Ind. - Two comeback attempts by the Rascals fell short as Evansville won their second game in the same season against the River City for the first time since 2008, holding off the late charge for a 4-2 win Sunday night at Historic Bosse Field.

Evansville (10-18) took a 1-0 lead when first baseman Nick Schwaner stole home in the second and stretched their lead to 2-0 in the fifth with a two-out single from Matt Sheely.

Otter starter Garrett Bullock (1-3) faced one over the minimum in the first five innings before the Rascals scored an unearned run in the sixth helped out with three Evansville errors to close the game to 2-1 as Chandler Barnard pitched his best game, striking out three over six innings before giving way to Jason Sullivan in the seventh. River City loaded the bases in the sixth with no outs but came away with just one run.

Sullivan allowed two runs on four-straight two out hits to give the Otters enough cushion to hang on.

River City (16-12) closed the score to 4-2 in the eighth but left the bases loaded before rolling into a game-ending double play in the ninth.

The Rascals remain two games back of first place Schaumburg in the West Division race and will face the Otters Monday night with first pitch set for 6:35. The Rascals send Tony Marsala (2-1, 3.26) to the mound against Evansville's Bryce Morrow (2-2, 4.79). You can hear all the live action on Westplex News-Talk 1280 AM and at westplexnewstalk.com.
