
Grizzlies Winning Streak Snapped with Loss to RiverHawks

LOVES PARK, IL - Rockford used a five-run fifth inning to rally back from a three run deficit and pick up a 6-4 win over Gateway Sunday night at RiverHawks Stadium. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Grizzlies.
Gateway (15-13) scored the first three runs of the game, including one in the first and two in the second.
Richie Jimenez Jr. hit a one out double in the first inning for his first of two hits in the game. Jimenez came around to score on a Landon Hernandez RBI single to make it 1-0 Grizzlies.
Justin Dunning started a two-out Grizzlies rally in the second inning with a single. Casey Allison followed with a walk and Jonathan Johnson was hit by a pitch. With the bases loaded and two outs, Jimenez brought home two runs on a single to right field.
Gateway led 3-0 until the fifth when Grizzlies starter Ja'Vaun West (0-1) ran into trouble. Rockford (10-17) picked up five runs on six hits, including a two-run single by Jet Butler and a three-run home run by Javier Herrera in the fifth.
Johnson hit his first home run of the season for Gateway in the sixth inning. It was a solo blast to right field and it brought Gateway within one run of the RiverHawks.
Rockford tacked on an insurance in the sixth on a Carlos Luciano solo home run, his first of the season. Brett Scarpetta closed out the ninth inning to secure the RiverHawks victory.
Gateway collected eight hits, but struck out a season-high 15 times. Jimenez paced the Grizzlies with a 2-for-5 night.
West took the loss after surrendering five runs on eight hits in five innings. He struck out six and walked no one.
The Grizzlies continue their three-game series with the RiverHawks on Monday. Frontier League wins leader Alex Kaminsky (5-0) makes the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 7:05 CT.
