Kalamazoo, MI - Starting their three-game home stand on a winning note, the Kalamazoo Wings defeated the Fort Wayne Komets 3-1 Wednesday night at Wings Stadium.
Mike Embach (13th) put the Komets ahead 1:14 into the game by scoring on Fort Wayne's very first shot on the net, a left circle wrist shot, which went five-hole on Jordan Binnington.
Eric Kattelus (13th) notched his third goal in his last two games midway in the second period to even the game at 1-1. Spinning free at the right circle, Kattelus beat Max Strang nearside post with a wrist shot.
Breaking the game open in the third period, Sam Ftorek recorded the eventual game-winner off of a David Pacan face-off draw 3:40 into the stanza.
Kattelus capped off his night three minutes later scoring on a backhander. Nick Sirota and Matt Caria earned assists on the tally. Sirota finished the game with two assists, while Caria extended his point streak to a K-Wings season-high six games.
After allowing a goal on the first shot of the night, Binnington (12-7-1-0) turned aside 28 straight shots for the victory.
The K-Wings will continue their three-game home stand with the middle leg of the stretch this Friday, January 17th, versus the Gwinnet t Gladiators on Hockey and Hops and 80's Night featuring Dennis Haskins, who played Mr. Belding in the hit TV show Saved by the Bell.
