January 15, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Greenville, SC: Todd Hosmer tallied his first two ECHL goals to help Greenville cruise past the South Carolina Stingrays in a 5-3 win on Tuesday night.
The Road Warriors kicked off the scoring with a deflection goal by Hosmer. The forward tipped a Mike Marcou shot that was also assisted by Josh Nicholls. Igor Gongalsky tied the game at one with a power play goal halfway through the period. A Steve Spinell shot was partially blocked by the Road Warriors but was left for Gongalsky to clean-up with a backhand goal in the slot. His fifth goal of the year was also assisted by Jeremy Price. Just 1:10 later, Nicholls added another point with a wrap-around goal for his sixth of the year. Andrew Rowe and Sam Klassen tallied the assists on the marker.
Just 2:56 into the second period, Marcou added another goal with a slap shot from the point. His fifth of the season was assisted by Brad Cole and Sean Berkstresser. Halfway through the period, the Stingrays scored to bring the score to a 3-2 Road Warriors lead. Price scored to give himself two points on the night and his third of the year. The Road Warriors took a penalty with under four minutes left in the frame. Berkstresser stole the puck in the defensive zone for a breakaway to score shorthanded for his fourth of the year. Greenville brought a 4-2 lead into the third period.
Hosmer added his second of the game moments into the third with snap shot that beat Stingrays' goaltender Jeff Jakaitis low glove side. Rowe assisted for his second point of the night to give Greenville a 5-2 lead. The Stingrays would make it interesting with a late goal from Kyle Bodie, his fifth of the season. The goal was not enough to stir the Road Warriors' defense that held strong in the closing minutes. Jeff Malcolm helped secure the 5-3 win with 36 saves and improved to 6-3-1. Jakaitis took the loss with 20 saves.
