Karki Leads Tips to 1-0 Win

Everett Silvertips News Release
LANGLEY, British Columbia - Goaltender Keegan Karki turned in a 25 save shutout while Aidan Sutter scored the only goal needed, lifting the Everett Silvertips to a 1-0 win over the Kelowna Rockets on Saturday in the Giants pre-season tournament, at Langley Events Centre.
With seven players who played in regular roles on last season's team out of the lineup, including five appearing in last weekend's pre-season games now skating in NHL camps, Karki improved to 2-0 in the pre-season while the Silvertips committed only one penalty (matching roughing minors in the first period), and avoided the penalty kill the entire game.
Sutter scored to put the Tips up 1-0, just 8:35 into the game on his first goal of the pre-season, set up from a Reece Vitelli bank off the goaltender which deflected to the left circle. Sutter, skating to the loose puck, uncorked a slap shot under the bar to put the Silvertips ahead. The Tips outshot Kelowna 13-7 for the opening period.
Kelowna limited the Silvertips to just three shots in the second period, but Karki turned all nine Rockets shots away in the second period before closing the game with a nine-save third period and preserving the Tips 4-0 pre-season record.
Roman Basran, who gave up the Tips first period goal, stopped 15 of 16 shots in the game before giving way to Cole Tisdale (9 saves on 9 shots) for the remaining 28 minutes.
NOTES: The Silvertips scratched Martin Fasko-Rudas, Brendan Lee, Jackson Berezowski, Bryce Kindopp, Jake Christiansen, Gianni Fairbrother, Wyatte Wylie, and Dustin Wolf ... Reece Vitelli was the Silvertips top performer at the face-off dot, going 12-of-15 ... Patterson won eight of 15 face-offs ... Kelowna wore red Vancouver Giants jerseys for the game.
The Silvertips return to play this Saturday against the Kelowna Rockets, 3:30 p.m. in a pre-season tournament hosted by the Vancouver Giants. The Silvertips will launch the 2019-20 season and raise their seventh U.S. Division banner to the rafters on Opening Night, Sept. 20 at Angel of the Winds Arena against the Tri-City Americans at 7:35 p.m.
