Kannapolis Takes Second Straight Over Legends

Kannapolis takes second straight over Legends Juan Silverio's two-run homer in the fifth inning broke a 1-1 tie, and the Kannapolis Intimidators went on to a 4-1 victory over the Lexington Legends Thursday night in Kannapolis.

The Legends scored in the top of the first inning on a triple by Jimmy Paredes and a sacrifice fly by Jake Goebbert, but were shut out the rest of the way by Justin Collop, who worked the first seven innings, and Taylor Thompson, who pitched the eighth and ninth.

The Intimidators tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. Ian Gac doubled with one out, and came around to score when right fielder Jake Goebbert dropped a fly ball hit by Trayce Thompson. Silverio's homer, his fourth of the season, came with one out in the fifth, and followed a single by Miguel Gonzalez, who had advanced to second on a passed ball.

Kannapolis added a run in the eighth. Jake Oester, the son of former Cincinnati Red Ron Oester, doubled to center field with one out. He scored on a single by Gac.

Collop (9-10) got the win. Thompson earned his sixth save. Lexington starter Luis Cruz (7-4) took the loss. He pitched six innings and allowed four hits and three runs, two earned. Cruz walked one batter and struck out eight.

Kannapolis has won the first two games of the four-game series. The two teams meet again Friday night in Kannapolis. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
