Collop Pitches Intimidators Past Legends 4-1

Justin Collop set aside is early season woes against the Lexington Legends and went seven strong innings in a 4-1 Kannapolis Intimidators win on Thursday night in the second game of the four-game series.

Collop (9-10) who had allowed 21 runs against the Legends (29-30) in just eight innings this season allowed a first inning run on a triple by Jimmy Parades and a sacrifice fly but that was the end of the damage in the ballgame. Collop went seven innings, scattered eight hits and struck out six for his ninth win of the season.

Trailing 1-0 going into the fourth, Ian Gac hit a two-out double for the Intimidators (30-30) and he was there for the next batter Trayce Thompson. Thompson hit a high fly ball to right field, which the right fielder dropped, allowing Gac to score and tie the game at one.

In the fifth, off Luis Cruz, Miguel Gonzalez led off the inning with a single and with one down, Juan Silverio took a changeup over the wall in left-center field for his fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot, which gave the Intimidators a 3-1 lead. Cruz (7-4) went six innings and allowed two earned run with eight strikeouts.

The Intimidators added an insurance run in the eighth as Jake Oester doubled and Gac drove him in to push the advantage to three runs, but the run was unused. Taylor Thompson came on in the eighth, and worked a clean inning and did so also in the ninth with two strikeouts to close the door on the Legends and earn his sixth save of the year.

The Legends out-hit the Intimidators eight-to-six but lost the game by three. The Intimidators have won back-to-back games and are now back at an even record. They look to get to a game above .500 as Andre Rienzo goes for his eighth straight win at 7:05 pm on Friday and he will be opposed by Tanner Bushue.
