
Delmarva Seven-Run 5th Sinks Suns

The Hagerstown Suns (25-35, 61-69) fell at home in game two to the Delmarva Shorebirds (25-35, 57-73) 11-6 after the visitors scored seven runs in the fifth inning.
The game began as a pitchers duel with just one run allowed total in the first four innings. In the third as Adrian Sanchez struck out, Eury Perez stole third and took home as catcher Austin Rauch's throw was wide, giving Hagerstown a 1-0 lead off Shorebirds starter Nick Haughian (6-3).
Things fell apart for Hagerstown in the top of the fifth as the Shorebirds combined for seven runs in the inning with eleven batters coming to the plate. Delmarva's scores included a two-run double by Garabez Rosa off Suns starter Mitchell Clegg (9-3) later followed by a three-run two-bagger by Rauch off Luis Garcia, giving the Shorebirds a 7-1 lead.
A fielder's choice by Adrian Sanchez in the bottom of the fifth to score Mills Rogers gave the Suns a run, pulling Hagerstown within six.
Delmarva put more on the board in the seventh as Omar Casamayor hit a two-run double to center to score two runs for a 9-2 Shorebirds lead.
The Suns started their response in the bottom of the seventh with a Rick Hague ground ball single up the middle to score Eury Perez to cut the deficit back to six.
Next inning, Hagerstown combined for three runs. With second and third and two out, Mills Rogers reached on a catching error by first baseman T.J. Baxter, allowing Brett Newsome to score. Next batter, Perez singled to right to score Justino Cuevas and puts runners on the corners. With Hague at the plate, Perez stole second and Mills took home plate on a throw into center field by Rauch. The Suns got to within three, down 9-6.
However, the Shorebirds scored two in the ninth to seal the 11-6 victory over the Suns.
Haughian got the win, throwing six innings with two unearned runs allowed and striking out five.
Clegg got the loss for Hagerstown, allowing six runs in 4.2 innings despite not allowing a score in the first four frames.
The Suns will look to rebound against the Shorebirds during game three on Friday night at 7:05. Gates to Municipal Stadium open at 6:00 p.m.
