Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Game Rewind
The K-Wings began their "Colonial Cup Countdown" last week with game one and two of their Best of Seven First Round Series against the Rockford IceHogs. Game one of the series was at Wings Stadium on Friday (4/15). After two scoreless periods, it was the IceHogs that broke the game open, scoring three goals, including the game-winning goal, which was scored by Alex Kim (1) on a four-on-four situation. Rockford's Michel Robinson stopped all 41 shots he faced in the IceHogs 3-0 victory over Kalamazoo. The shutout was the first in Rockford's playoff history; it was also the IceHogs' first road playoff win in their history.
Kalamazoo stayed home for game two of series on Saturday (4/16). IceHog forward Brandon Segal (2,3,4) showed his scoring touch by netting the first hat trick of this year's postseason. The hat trick was also the first by a Rockford player in their playoff history. Kalamazoo's Andrew Luciuk netted the lone K-Wings goal in the third period, ending a postseason scoreless streak of 114:23 minutes for Kalamazoo. For the second straight night, Rockford's Michel Robinson was stingy between the pipes; stopping 32 of the 33 shots he faced to lead the IceHogs to a 5-1 victory over the K-Wings. With the loss, the K-Wings are now down two games to none in the Best of Seven Series against the IceHogs.
Fast Forward
The K-Wings will continue their First Round Colonial Cup Best of Seven Series against the Rockford IceHogs tonight (4/19) with game three at the Rockford MetroCentre. Game four of the series will by tomorrow (4/20). Face-off for both game three and four will be at 7:00 p.m. (CST).
If necessary, game five of the series will be played at Wings Stadium at 7:30 p.m. this Friday (4/22). Also if necessary, game six of the series will be played this week, as the K-Wings and the IceHogs would return to the Rockford MetroCentre Saturday (4/23) for a 7 p.m. (CST) face-off.
Willis Out For Game Three
Forward Tyler Willis will be out of the K-Wings line-up for game three of the series tonight in Rockford. Willis, who has been suspended for one-game by the UHL for his actions against the IceHogs in game two, can return to the K-Wings lineup tomorrow night in game four.
It Starts With One
Tonight starts the first of two straight games in Rockford. This will be the sixth time this year that the K-Wings have played back-to-back road games in the same city. The K-Wings are 9-1 this year when they play in the same city for back-to-back games.
Getting Their Shots In
So far in this series, the K-Wings have been able to get shots on goal. Through two games, the K-Wings have out shot Rockford 74-58.
Killing Time
The K-Wings have killed all 12 power-play opportunities the IceHogs have had in the series. With their penalty-kill at 100 percent, Kalamazoo is tied with both the Fort Wayne Komets and the Missouri River Otters for first place overall in the UHL playoffs for killing penalties.
The Obscure Stat of the Week
The K-Wings went 16-14-3 from October through December. Since the calendar turned to 2005, the K-Wings have gone 34-10-3.
