Mike Kompon Named UHL Rookie of the Year

Moline, IL-The United Hockey League announced today that Mallards forward Mike Kompon is the league's Rookie of the Year. The skilled forward recorded 90 points on 39 goals and 51 assists in his first campaign in pro hockey.

Kompon led all UHL rookies in goals, assists and points. He also ranked first amongst UHL first-year players in power-play goals (17) and power-play points (33). He was second in shots (230), plus-minus (plus 25) and game-winning goals (five) amongst UHL rookies.

The Thunder Bay, Ontario native also led the Mallards roster in goals, assists and points. Kompon was tops amongst Mallards in power-play goals and tied for the team lead in game-winning goals. His plus 25 rating also led the team.

Kompon is the third Mallard to receive the UHL's Rookie of the Year Award joining Jason Ulmer and Mike Melas. Ulmer won the league honor in 2000-01 after recording 97 points (26 goals and 71 assists). Melas was the 1998-99 UHL Rookie of the Year after recording 92 points (40 goals and 52 assists) in 67 games.

The Mallards are back on home ice for Games Four of their Quarterfinal Round Series with Muskegon. Game Four is set for Friday at The MARK at 7:00 p.m. Rally Towels will be given away to the first 3,000 fans courtesy of Deere Harvester Credit Union, Q106.5, The Northwest Tower in Bettendorf and Pro Home Helpers. If necessary, the Mallards will return to The MARK on Sunday, April 24th for Game Six. Tickets to both games are available at The MARK box office or via phone at (563) 326-1111.

Games Four and Five of the Mallards Quarterfinal Series will be heard on WOC AM 1420. The First Captial Financial Pre-Game Show begins at 6:35 p.m. on Friday and 6:05 p.m. on Saturday. The Allstate Insurance Del Newton/Christy Cox Post-Game Show follows both games.

Games Six and Seven will be on the Mallards radio home, Fox Sports Radio AM 1230.
