Quad City's Kompon named UHL Rookie of the Year

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Wednesday that Quad City forward Mike Kompon has been named the 2004-05 UHL Rookie of the Year as selected by the league head coaches, general managers, and members of the media.

The 23-year-old native of Thunder Bay Ontario led UHL rookies in several categories, including goals (39), assists (51), points (90), power play goals (17), and power play points (33). He was second among first-year players in shots on goal (230), power play assists (16), plus/minus (plus-25), and was third in shooting percentage (.170).

Kompon's 90 points led Quad City and ranked 10th among all UHL players. He was selected to Team Mountain Dew in the 2005 Pepsi UHL All-Star Classic in January. Prior to this year, he played four seasons at Miami University (Ohio). He collected 138 points (49g, 89a) in 153 games which ranks 10th on the Miami All-Time Scoring List.

Kompon is the third Quad City Mallard to earn Rookie of the Year honors (Mike Melas 1998-99, Jason Ulmer 2000-01).
