Danbury Trashers News Release
The Danbury Trashers pinned six goals on the board to take a commanding 3-0 series lead of the Adirondack Frostbite, with a 6-1 at the Danbury Ice Arena in front of a crowd of 2,686. Mike Bayrack notched two goals to up his playoff total to three, and netminder Scott Stirling turned aside 36-of-37 shots faced.
Bayrack's first of the game came at the 5:31 mark of the opening frame as he put the puck top shelf past Frostbite goalie Derek Gustafson. Seven minutes later, he scored again, as he put a second shot over Gustafson's shoulder. Bayrack's linemates, Michael Rupp and Bruce Richardson assisted on both of the goals. The two teams combined for six minor penalties, and the Adirondack bench minor at 18:41 and the Geno Parrish's tripping penalty at 19:42 carried over to the second period.
Johnathan Gagnon added to his playoff goal tally that he started scoring a triple OT game winner in Adirondack when he scored 2:26 into the second period, assisted by Jay Murphy and Francis Belanger. Justin Kelly scored his first of the playoffs at 4:17, with the only shot that would get past Danbury's Stirling all night. Frank Bakrlik and Scott Drevitch got the helpers on the Kelly goal. Belanger added his first playoff goal to boost the Trashers' lead to 4-1 heading into the final period.
The fifth Danbury goal was Doug Christiansen's first of the post season, assisted by Nicholas Bilotto and Jeff Daw at 4:09. Christiansen promptly served two minutes for elbowing at 4:09. Sylvain Cloutier joined Cody McLeod in the Adirondack penalty box, Mario Larocque scored on the 5-on-3 to make the game a 6-1 final. Before the final buzzer, the game was interrupted by a pair of fights, as the Trashers' Jeff State and Michael Rupp, as well as the Frostbites' Scott Page and McLeod all receieved fighting majors.
Danbury's Larocque scored the only power play goal of the night, the Trashers going 1-for-9, Adirondack, 0-for-7. The two teams meet up again Friday night for game four of the series, at the Danbury Ice Arena.
