Kaebel Resigns As Oilers Coach

December 3, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Tulsa Oilers News Release

Butch Kaebel has stepped down as head coach of the Tulsa Oilers, and will be replaced by assistant coach Dan Hodge on an interim basis.

"Butch handled this situation with class and professionalism, the way he has handled everything in his time with the Oilers," general manager Corey MacIntyre said. "Butch has always been a perfect representative of the Oilers organization and nobody has worked harder for success than he has."

Kaebel became the Oilers head coach on an interim basis himself on Christmas 2003, and the Oilers beat Oklahoma City 2-0 that night. He had the interim tag removed at the start of the 2004-05 season and led the Oilers back to the CHL playoffs for the first time in four seasons. His career coaching record with the Oilers is 108-107-27, including a 5-10-1 mark this season.

"I played as an Oiler, I coached as an Oiler and I always want what is best for the organization," Kaebel said. "I want to thank Jeff Lund and Corey MacIntyre for the opportunity, and the fans for the great memories. Tulsa is our home."

"Butch will always be a part of the Oilers family and we want him to feel that way, " team president Jeff Lund said. "His work in the community and with our fans has been everything we could have asked for and then some. Even though the start of the season isn't what we have hoped for, and not all of that is Butch's responsibility, that's the nature of the beast in professional sports if results aren't there.

"Butch told us he wants what's best for the team and wants fans in the stands. We want nothing but the best for Butch and his family," Lund said.

The Oilers next home game is Friday night against the Austin Ice Bats. They host the Oklahoma City Blazers on Saturday. Both games at the Tulsa Convention Center begin at 7:35 p.m. For ticket information on all Oilers games, call 877-TULSACC (885-7222).
