Game Rewind The K-Wings played three games last week. Kalamazoo started the week on Wednesday (12/4) as they hosted the Port Huron Beacons. The game featured two of the top goaltenders in the UHL, as the K-Wings put Chad Alban between the pipes against Port Huron's Kory Cooper. The game was the first for Cooper in Wings Stadium since being traded by the K-Wings in the off-season. The Beacons started the games scoring in the first period with a goal from Yannick Carpenter (8). The Beacons would extend their lead at the 9:24 mark of the second period, when Scott Drevitch (6) scored an unassisted goal to make the score 2-0 in favor of the Beacons. Kalamazoo would start the comeback late in the second period, when Herman Hultgren (2) beat Cooper with a blast from the right point to make the score 2-1. The K-Wings would tie the game at 2-2 just 34 seconds into the third period, when Michael Ford (3) scored shorthanded. The K-Wings would complete the comeback at the 13:53 mark of the third period, when Craig Bilick (6) scored on the power play to give the K-Wings a 3-2 lead. Alban would close the door on the Beacons has he stopped 33 shots to record the victory, as the K-Wings defeated the Beacons by the final of 3-2.

Kalamazoo would start a three game road swing on Saturday (12/7), as they traveled to Glens Falls, New York, to battle the Adirondack IceHawks. The IceHawks got on the board first as John Batten (7) scored midway into the opening period to give Adirondack a 1-0 lead. The K-Wings would tie the game just over two minutes later, when Richard Keyes scored his 11th goal of the season. The score would remain tied until the second period, when Dominic Chiasson (7) scored at the 8:21 mark of the second period to give the IceHawks a 2-1 lead. Kalamazoo would rally back in the third period, as Keyes netted his second of the game and his 12th of the season 10:05 into the third period to the tie the game at 2-2. The game would head into a shootout, and in the extra session, Adirondack would outscore the K-Wings in the shootout (3-0), and defeat the Kalamazoo by the final of 3-2.

The K-Wings concluded the week on Sunday (12/8) in Elmira, New York, as the K-Wings played the defending Eastern Conference Champions the Elmira Jackals. Kalamazoo started the scoring in the game in the first period, when Jordan Trew scored his third goal of the season on the power play to give Kalamazoo a 1-0 lead. Later in the period, Aaron Phillips tied the game with his 8th goal of the season at the 11:57 mark of the period. The game would remain tied until the 15:05 mark of the third period, when Kris Mallette (1) scored the eventual game-winning goal as the Jackals escape with a 2-1 victory over the Kalamazoo Wings. Fast Forward The K-Wings will play three games in three nights this week. The K-Wings start the week with a huge division clash on Thursday (12/12)in Moline, Illinois, as Kalamazoo plays the Quad City Mallards. Kalamazoo enters the week just four points behind the Mallards for fourth place in the Western Conference. Quad City has had their problems at home this season, as the Mallards are just 3-6-1, however one of their victories was a 6-1 win over Kalamazoo. This will be the fourth meeting of the season between the teams; the K-Wings lead the season series with a record of 2-1-0, however, both victories were at Wings Stadium.

After spending three straight games on the road, the K-Wings will return home to Wings Stadium on Friday (12/13), the K-Wings play the Adirondack IceHawks. It will be the second meeting between the teams; Adirondack won the last meeting 3-2 in a shootout. The game will also coincide with the Third Annual Teddy Bear Toss Game sponsored by WOTV-41/WRCC Radio. After the K-Wings score their first goal, fans will be allowed to throw their new stuffed toy onto the ice. All items that are collected will go to children charities around the area.

The K-Wings will conclude the week on Saturday (12/14); as the K-Wings will host division rival the Missouri River Otters. Missouri sits atop the Western Conference with a record of 13-6-5 (31 points). This will be the third meeting between the teams this season. The season series between the teams is tied, as both teams won in a shootout on the others home ice. The first 1,000 fans into Wings Stadium will receive a limited edition K-Wings Holiday Ornament.

Alban Named Player of the Week The UHL has named Chad Alban it's Goaltender of the Week, for the week of December 2nd-8th. Alban went 1-0-1 with a GAA of 2.00 and a save percentage of .971.

Tops on the Road While the K-Wings are third in the league on the power play at 19.2%, much of their success has occurred on the road. The K-Wings are top road team in the UHL on the power play with a percentage of 22.1%

Bilick Continues Streak With receiving a penalty in the game against Elmira on Sunday, K-Wing forward Craig Bilick has extended his penalty streak to 8 straight games, which is the longest current streak in the UHL

Home Cooking The K-Wings enter the week with a three game home winning streak. The streak is their longest of the season, and it is also tied with Muskegon and Adirondack for the longest current streak in the UHL.

Road Woes While the K-Wings have had success at home, they enter their road game against Quad City (12/12) with the longest road losing streak in the league at 6 games.

Un-Bear-Able On Friday, the K-Wings will host the Adirondack IceHawks at Wings Stadium. The game is sponsored by WOTV-41/WRCC Radio. After the K-Wings score their first goal, fans will be allowed to throw their new stuffed toy onto the ice. All items that are collected will go to children charities around the area.

Too Close for Comfort The K-Wings have kept their fans at the edge of their seats. 10 of the K-Wings last 11 games have been decided by one goal. In those games the K-Wings are 4-3-4.

It's Gotta Be the Shoes K-Wing players Chad Alban, Mark Phenow, Eric Lawson, and Michael Ford will be at Shoe Carnival this Sunday (12/15) from 1-3 PM signing autographs. Shoe Carnival is located at 6805 Westnedge (1 mile south of I-94 next to Target).

Back to School On Monday, December 16th, K-Wings players Joe Pecoraro and Tyson Turgeon will be visiting Allegan High School from 2-3 PM to help promote self-esteem to individuals who are hearing impaired. The appearance, which is through the Quota Club, is also to promote a separate gathering in early January. The students from Allegan High School, as well as other deaf students from around the area will get to skate and meet their hometown team on January 3rd.

The Obscure Stat of the Week In their UHL history the K-Wings are 1-0-2 in Teddy Bear Toss Games. The K-Wings lost in a shootout 3-2 to Fort Wayne (12/8/00) at Wings Stadium, the following season the K-Wings defeated Rockford 3-1 (12/14/01) at Wings Stadium, and just last week the K-Wings lost in a shootout 3-2 to Adirondack (12/7/02) at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
