December 10, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release
READING, PA â Reading Royals fans showed their support of those in need in Berks County by raising more than $12,000 for Royals Charities. The money, a total of $12,128, was raised during a jersey auction during Saturday's game with the Richmond Renegades.
The Royals wore special red-white-and-blue jerseys that were auctioned off through a silent bidding process. The auction was sponsored by Leesport Bank.
Center Brad Rooney's jersey brought in the most cash, $1,500. Other notable winning bids were $800 each for jerseys worn by defenseman Hunter Lahache and forward Kris Waltze. Rookie Jeff Sanger, who stopped 32 shots and recorded three points to help the Royals roll over the Renegades 6-0, had his jersey taken home for a bid of $700.
All auction proceeds go to Royals Charities, which is committed to providing assistance to charitable organizations throughout Reading and the surrounding area that serve seriously ill, disabled or disadvantaged youth and their families. The 2002-03 Royals Charities beneficiaries are Berks Women in Crisis and the Children's Home of Reading.
"We're glad we could team with the Royals to raise money to support Berks Women in Crisis and the Children's Home of Reading, said Leesport Bank Public Relations Officer Loren Berckey. "Leesport Bank has spent more than 111 years not only doing business in the community but supporting it wherever and however we could, and we're glad to have a partner like the Royals that cares just as much about the community."
