Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud members of the United Hockey League, announce the signings of forward Scott Turner and defenseman Casey Handrahan for the upcoming 2005-2006 season. Per team policy, the terms of the contracts will remain undisclosed.
Turner joins the K-Wings after spending the past two seasons in the ECHL with the Peoria Rivermen and the Victoria Salmon Kings. By coming to Kalamazoo, Turner will be reunited with Tyler Rennette, whom the K-Wings signed earlier this off-season, as the two were teammates for the past year and a half in Peoria.
In his career, Turner has been a reliable asset on both ends of the ice. The native of Anchorage, Alaska has been able to establish himself as a solid defensive forward, as well as produce offensively. The left-winger finished out last year with the Salmon Kings, where he recorded close to a point-a-night.
"A player like Scott brings a lot to the table," said Vice President/General Manager, Paul L. Pickard. "He (Turner) has showed his ability to score goals, as well as stop the opposing team's top line."
Before turning pro, Turner played college hockey at the University of Nebraska Omaha, where he amassed 58 points and 123 minutes in penalties in his 119 game NCAA career. Turner also played Junior "A" hockey in the United States Hockey League (USHL) with both the Rochester Mustangs and the Omaha Lancers.
The K-Wings also announce the addition of defenseman Casey Handrahan. Handrahan played last season in the SPHL with the Macon Trax. Under UHL rules, Handrahan will be considered a rookie for the 2005-06 season.
"Casey will add some size to our blue line," said Pickard. "After looking at his numbers in both Niagara and Macon, we (K-Wings) feel he (Handrahan) is ready for the next level. -MORE-
The native of Niagara Falls, Ontario didn't have to travel that far for his college career, as he played four years at the Niagara University (NY).
The signings of Scott Turner and Casey Handrahan give the K-Wings eighteen players signed for the upcoming 2005-06 season, which begins October 22nd, when the K-Wings travel to Port Huron to battle the Flags. Besides Turner and Handrahan, the K-Wings have signed forwards Nick Bootland, Mike Manley, Tyler Rennette, Tyler Willis, Joe Seroski, Kory Karlander, Tim Turner and Tim Krueckl earlier this off-season. Also signed for next season, are defensemen Josh Elzinga, Adam Elzinga, Greg Labenski, Daniel Carriere and Lee Ruff, and goaltenders Joel Martin, Zach Sikich and Jeff Reynaert.
