September 22, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Quad City Mallards News Release
Moline, IL-Quad City Mallards Head Coach and General Manager Brian Curran announced today that defenseman Samy Nasreddine has been signed for the 2005-06 season. The veteran will begin his ninth season of pro hockey this October. He has appeared in 461 professional games scoring 56 goals with 147 assists for 203 points. He has captured two Taylor Cup Championships (West Coast Hockey League Playoff Championship) during his career.
Nasreddine comes to the Quad Cities after appearing in 30 games last season in Italy with Brunico SG. The Montreal native recorded 17 points (three goals and 14 assists) last season while playing overseas.
Nasreddine played four seasons with the San Diego Gulls (West Coast Hockey League / ECHL) before heading to Europe. He joined the team in 2000-01 and went on to win the Taylor Cup in his first season with the team. In 2002-03, Nasreddine won a second Taylor Cup with the Gulls. During his last season in San Diego (2003-04), he was a member of the ECHL's best regular season squad and established a career high in goals (10).
Before joining the Gulls, Nasreddine spent time in the American Hockey League (Worcester and Fredericton), International Hockey League (Quebec and Milwaukee) and ECHL (Peoria, New Orleans and Baton Rouge). The 6-foot-2, 202-pound blueliner reached career highs in assists (32) and points (40) as a rookie with the 1997-98 Peoria Rivermen.
"This is a huge addition for us," said Curran. "Samy will be a calming influence on our younger players and will be one of our top defensemen this year. This is an exciting signing for this organization."
