K-Wings return to the ice tonight
October 28, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Game Preview For the second straight season, the Kalamazoo Wings will serve as the home opener for the Motor City Mechanics. The K-Wings would love a repeat performance of last year's game, as Kalamazoo skated away with a 4-1 victory over Motor City.
After nearly a week off the K-Wings return to the ice tonight with a chance to gain first place honors in the UHL's Central Division. Entering tonight's game, the K-Wings are in a three way tie for second place in the division and are just one point behind the Mechanics for the Central's top spot.
Unlike the K-Wings, who have played just one game this year, the Mechanics have already played three games this season. The top team in the Central Division went 1-1-1 in three games last weekend. Tonight could also be the Motor City debut of Brent Gretzky, who was acquired by the Mechanics late last week.

Total Recall
K-Wings Goaltender Joel Martin is currently on call-up in the American Hockey League with the Cleveland Barons. Dressing in his place tonight as the K-Wings emergency goaltender will be Kevin Kurk. Kurk joined the K-Wings yesterday after being traded to Kalamazoo from the Elmira Jackals.
Feels Like the First Time
Mark Vilneff's two goal performance last Saturday was a first in his professional career. The two-goal effort is the first-time in Vilneff's 12-year professional career that he has had a multi-goal game.
Record Breaking Performance
Forward Tyler Rennette made K-Wings history last Saturday night in Port Huron. Rennette's four-point night was the best opening night performance by a K-Wings player on opening night in their UHL history.
Just Like Last Year
Tonight will mark the second straight season that the K-Wings will serve as the Motor City Mechanics home opener. Last year, the K-Wings defeated the Mechanics 4-1 in The Garage.
