
IceHogs make roster moves before weekend games

Rockford, Ill.- Rockford IceHogs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Steve Martinson announced several roster transactions for the United Hockey League club on Friday. The club has signed veteran defenseman Bob Nardella, goaltender Michel Robinson was loaned to the Milwaukee Admirals and forward Vince Malts was traded to the Elmira Jackals.
Nardella returns to Rockford for his second stint with the IceHogs. The veteran d-man suited up for the Hogs during the 2003-04 season and scored 7g-38a-45pts in only 44 games before signing on with the Chicago Wolves (AHL) for the remainder of the season. Nardella also has been invited to represent Team Italy in the upcoming 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Turin, Italy from Feb. 10-26.
The Melrose Park, Ill. native ranks in the top three all-time for the Wolves with 533 games played, 291 points and 223 assists. After playing in 44 games with Rockford, Nardella appeared in 10 contests for the Wolves in '03-04 and registered 10 assists in 13 games. In 10 postseason games, the blue-liner chipped in 1g-3a-4pts.
Robinson receives his second promotion to the AHL this season, and it's the fifth time this campaign in which an IceHogs skater has been loaned to the AHL. Robinson, the '04-05 UHL Goaltender of the Year, played Sunday for the IceHogs, picking up a win in his only appearance of the season. He was returned to Rockford from Milwaukee on Sunday after spending nearly two weeks with the Admirals.
Goaltender Andrew Joy was added back to Rockford's roster as well on Thursday to fill in for Robinson. Robinson is expected to be in Milwaukee until Sunday. Martinson also announced that veteran forward Vince Malts has been traded to the Elmira Jackals for future considerations. Malts played in two games for the IceHogs this campaign and was with the club in -04-05.
Next Home Game: Friday, October 28 vs. Missouri River Otters. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. The IceHogs and River Otters meet for the second time in the young season. The first 1,000 fans to the game will receive IceHogs Poster #1 from Medicine Man, Pepsi and Johnson Press. Also, the Hogs will host their annual costume contest for kids and adults.
