Mizzi nets hat-trick on Hogs 9-1 win

Rockford, Ill.- The Rockford IceHogs blew out the Missouri River Otters 9-1 on Friday night in front of 2,946 at the Rockford MetroCentre. The IceHogs set club records for goals in a game at home and largest margin of victory. Center Preston Mizzi continued his hot start, scoring three goals in the IceHogs win.

Mizzi began the Hogs barrage 1:57 into the game, blowing a snap shot past Missouri goalie Kevin Reiter. Winger Jason Ralph extended the lead to 2-0 at 5:23 on power play with his first goal of the year before rookie center Yannick Tifu knocked Rockford's third goal of the period in at 11:01 on the advantage.

In the second period, Rockford exploded for four goals. The first tally came from winger Greg Barber at 4:51 of the middle frame, chasing Reiter from the game. Kevin Cuthbert relieved Reiter and was welcomed by Mizzi, who tallied a short-handed goal at 15:38. Things got worse for Missouri at 16:25 when Ralph scored his second of the game followed by rookie center Steve Yetman's second goal of the season at 18:03.

Rookie winger Robin Big Snake extended Rockford's lead to 8-0 at 4:41 of the final period on the power play before the Otters got on the board. Defenseman Mark Lindsay lit Missouri's only lamp of the night, as he beat Hogs goalie Ronnie Vogel for his only blemish at 13:23. Mizzi later completed his hat trick at 13:55 of the third period, making the score 9-1.

Vogel picked up the win, making 27 while Reiter was the loser, turning away 15 of 19 Rockford shots while in the game. The Hogs finished the contest 4-for-11on the power play and the Otters were 0-for-5. Winger Jason Notermann added three assists for the Hogs who had 14 different players contribute points.

Next Home Game: Saturday, October 29 vs. Quad City Mallards. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The Hogs and Mallards renew their rivalry at the MetroCentre in the front end of a home-and-home series.
