KALAMAZOO- It was a night for history at Wings Stadium, as the Kalamazoo Wings defeated the Toledo Walleye 2-0 during the 15th Annual Teddy Bear Toss Night, presented by Little Caesars.

Before the game the team celebrated Sam Ftorek's 1,000th career game and his ECHL 789th career game, which tied him with Cam Brown for the all-time league lead in games played.

However, at the final buzzer it was Joel Martin that would etch his name into K-Wings history. Martin (8-6-1-1), who made 27 saves, tied two records Friday night. The win was Martin's 58th in a K-Wings' ECHL jersey, which tied him with Ryan Nie for the most in the team's ECHL history. Martin, who already owns the K-Wings' all-time record for shutouts with 15, tied Ryan Nie and Riley Gill for the most in the team's ECHL history with five.

Coming out firing, the K-Wings jumped out to an early lead when Curtis Valk earned his team-leading seventh of the season, assisting on the goal were Gergo Nagy, and Ftorek.

Following the goal, fans tossed out 1,094 stuffed animals onto the ice. The stuffed animals collected will go to the Salvation Army and to the K-Wings' annual visit to the Bronson Children's Hospital. This year the K-Wings will be delivering the stuffed animals to the Bronson Children's Hospital on Wednesday, December 17th at 2 p.m.

Not to be outdone, Lane Scheidl tied Valk for the team-lead in goals scored by knocking in his seventh of the season, less than five minutes later.

Kalamazoo and Toledo will conclude their home and home series tomorrow, Saturday, December 13th with a 7:15 p.m. encounter at the Huntington Center.

The K-Wings will return home next Friday, December 19th with a 7:30 p.m. face-off versus the Fort Wayne Komets on a 3, 2, 1 Countdown to Fun!, featuring $3 beer, $2 Pepsi products and $1 hot dogs. Friday night will also be Summertime Fun in the Snow.
