ESTERO, FL - In the second of three head-to-head meetings between the two teams this season, the Indy Fuel battled back with a pair of third period goals, but ultimately fell to the Florida Everblades on Friday at Germain Arena in Estero, Florida by a final score of 3-2. With the loss, the Fuel fell to 5-12-2-2 overall this season and with 14 points, remain alone in seventh place in the ECHL's North Division standings.
In a neutral-zone heavy opening period, the Everblades collected the frame's lone goal at 6:33, when leading Florida scorer Adam Brace redirected a right-point release from Tyson Gimblett to stake the 'Blades to a 1-0 lead. Florida extended their edge with a pair of middle frame even-strength goals, from Alex Aleardi at 9:44 and Mitch Wahl at 15:27 respectively, to take a 3-0 advantage into the second intermission.
The Fuel came out of the gate in the third guns-a-blazing as Indy captain Mike Duco put the Fuel on the board with his sixth of the season at 2:52, before Nick Bruneteau and Garett Bembridge sprung leading Fuel scorer Robert Czarnik on a four-on-four breakaway feed at 6:11 that the Detroit native finished for his 12th of the year to draw Indy within a goal at 3-2. Despite a furious rally late, the Fuel couldn't scrape an equalizer past Florida goaltender Allen York as the Everblades escaped with a one goal win.
In his debut performance for the Fuel, new Indy netminder Eric Levine turned in a solid 16-save outing that featured numerous highlight-reel stops while York made 15 saves in victory for the 'Blades.
Next up for the Fuel, it's a Saturday rematch with Florida with the opening faceoff set for 7:00 pm at Germain Arena. Full radio coverage begins with the "Jose Cuervo Pregame Show" at 6:45 pm over the air on CBS Sports 1430 WXNT-AM, online at cbssports1430.com and on smartphones everywhere via the free "TuneIn" Radio app with Fuel broadcaster Tony Brown providing the play-by-play.
