K-Wings Busy Heading into Pivotal Weekend

Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud member of the ECHL and affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders and American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, announce several transactions as the team prepares for a pivotal divisional matchup versus the Wheeling Nailers.

The help sure up its blue line, the K-Wings have acquired defenseman Justin Coutu (ka-too) from the Trenton Devils for future considerations.

In the midst of his sixth professional season, Coutu has spent the past three seasons with the Devils. Trenton wasn't Coutu's first stop in the ECHL, as he's combined to appear in 79 games with the Johnstown Chiefs, Augusta Lynx and Mississippi Sea Wolves between 2007 and 2008.

Before joining the ECHL, Coutu started his professional career with the Fort Worth Brahmas (CHL) and spent a season in the United Hockey League with the Muskegon Fury.

Returning to Kalamazoo will be defenseman Wes O'Neill, who was returned from loan from Bridgeport. The captain of the K-Wings, who has been with the Sound Tigers since November, has also been place on the 3-Day IR.

Also today, defenseman Steven Tarasuk was reassigned to the Sound Tigers. Tarasuk heading to Bridgeport marks the 16th time this season that a member of the K-Wings has been sent up to the AHL.

In a separate transaction, the K-Wings also released defenseman John Kivisto.

The K-Wings have also activated defenseman Corey Syvret from the team's 7-Day IR and moved forward Dean Strong from the 3-Day IR to the 7-Day.

Kalamazoo will travel to the Cambria County War Memorial in Johnstown, Pennsylvania for a 7:35 p.m. encounter this Friday, March 11th to battle the Wheeling Nailers.

The K-Wings will home this Saturday, March 12th with a 7:30 p.m. face-off versus the Nailers for another Saturday "Celebrity" Series featuring the World Famous Los Angeles Laker Girls, who will be performing during the intermissions and signing autographs during the third period.

Single-game tickets for all regular season home games are currently on sale at the Wings Stadium Ticket Office.
