Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings of the United Hockey League announce that they made a trade with the Flint Generals. The K-Wings received the rights for defenseman Mark Vilneff in exchange for a player to be named later.

Vilneff has played the past eight seasons with the Muskegon Fury, including last season's 2001-2002 Colonial Cup Championship team. During the off-season, Mark was traded from the Fury to the Generals; however, he has not played a game this season with Flint.

Besides playing in Muskegon, Vilneff has been called up to the former International Hockey League and has played games with the Grand Rapids Griffins, Utah Grizzlies, Detroit Vipers, and the Michigan K-Wings. During the 98-99 season, Mark was traded from Muskegon to Flint, where he finished the regular season, and help guide the Generals to the UHL playoffs.

"Mark is a player that adds depth and experience to our blue line corps," said Director of Hockey Operations and Head Coach Mark Kaufman. In his eight seasons as a professional, Vilneff has seen post-season action in each of those eight years. Vilneff will be at K-Wings practice today, as he gets prepared to see game action this weekend. K-Wing fans will get their first opportunity to see Vilneff this Friday night as the K-Wings host the Rockford IceHogs at Wings Stadium. The game will be part of K-Wings Trading Card Night. The first 1,000 fans into Wings Stadium will receive a FREE set of K-Wings Trading Cards courtesy of Burger King and Shoe Carnival. Tickets for the Rockford game, and all K-Wings home games are currently on sale by calling the Wings Stadium Box Office at (269) 345-5101.

For more information about the trade for Mark Vilneff, contact Mike Modugno, Director of Public Relations and Broadcaster at (269) 349-9772, extension 220.
