Falcons Shutout Gulls

Fresno Falcons News Release
FRESNO, Calif. â The easiest way to cure a pair of losses to the Bakersfield Condors seems to be to go out and beat the San Diego Gulls. After dropping their second straight weekend set to the Condors, the Fresno Falcons took out their frustrations on San Diego, this time shutting out the visiting Gulls 2-0.
It took a while for the Falcons to get warmed up, but Tyler Prosofsky finally got things going when he scored his first goal since joining the defending champions last week at the 13:27 mark of the first period for the early 1-0 lead. It proved to be the only goal that Fresno would need as the two teams skated to scoreless hockey the rest of the way. Kris Porter chipped in an empty net goal for his ninth tally of the season at the end of the game to seal the victory for the Falcons.
Friesen was spectacular between the pipes for the Falcons, stopping all 22 shots he faced before giving way to Mark Gowan in the third period. Friesen was forced to leave the game after being assessed a game misconduct penalty for his fight with Gulls goaltender Trevor Koenig. Gowan stopped all five shots he faced in relief. Koenig made 15 saves for San Diego while his backup, Curtis Cruickshank, made three saves. Both teams went scoreless in each of their two power plays.
The Falcons took home the two points Tuesday night to improve their record to 7-6-1 with 15 points. They are now tied with the struggling Gulls for third place in the WCHL standings, one point behind the Condors. The win also snapped the team's four game winless streak at Selland Arena and they are now 6-4-1 on their home ice.
The team will now hit the road for a pair of games against the Idaho Steelheads in their first trip back to Boise since hoisting the Taylor Cup last May. The two teams will drop the puck at 6:05 p.m. Friday night, with the tape delayed broadcast beginning at approximately 10 p.m. on 103.1 FM, The Mountain Cat. Saturday's game can be heard live on The Mountain Cat beginning at 5:50 p.m. with the Mail Boxes, Etc. Pre-Game Show. The Falcons return home on Friday, Dec. 7, when they take on the Long Beach Ice Dogs at 7:30 p.m. The game will be the team's 3rd Annual Teddy Bear Toss and the first 5,000 fans will receive a free team photo, courtesy of Baja Fresh and ValPrint. Tickets are available at the Selland Arena box office, all Ticketmaster outlets or by going on-line at www.ticketmaster.com.
