Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
WINNIPEG - Winnipeg Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today the signing of outfielder Justin Justice.
Justice, 26, played in 69 games with the Goldeyes last season after being claimed off waivers from the Joliet Jackhammers. He hit .296 with Winnipeg, while adding 14 home runs and 51 RBI. He also led the team with seven triples.
After the 2010 season ended, Justice played winter ball in Colombia, but suffered a torn Achilles tendon. He had been recovering from the injury ever since.
Prior to joining the independent baseball ranks in 2009 with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, Justice spent five years in the Detroit Tigers system. He was teammates with Louis Ott in 2008 with Advanced-A Lakeland in the Florida State League and Double-A Erie in the Eastern League.
Justice was drafted by the Tigers in the 31st Round (910th Overall) of the 2003 MLB amateur draft.
Winnipeg now has 22 players in its roster, including 12 pitchers and 10 position players.
The Goldeyes open a six-game home stand tonight against the St. Paul Saints.
Great seats for all Goldeyes games are available by visiting any Ticketmaster outlet, clicking on Ticketmaster.ca or by calling 1-855-GOLDEYE.
