Wichita Thunder News Release
Wichita, KS (February 1st) - The Central Hockey League announced today that goaltender Torrie Jung has been selected as the Warrior CHL Goaltender of the Month for January. This is the first monthly honor earned by a Thunder player and Jung's second award as he was chosen as Goaltender of the Week for the period ending on December 23rd.
Jung, who just celebrated his 24th birthday, has been a big reason for the Thunder's leap to the top of the latest CHL Coaches Poll. The Nanaimo, British Colombia native went 6-1-0 during the month of January, allowing just 13 goals against and collecting his second shutout of the season on January 26th in a 7-0 win over Denver. His goals against average in January was a mere 1.86 and a save percentage of .921. Out of the seven wins during the month for Wichita, Jung has earned six of those.
Jung has started the last five games for Wichita and has won all of them while allowing just nine goals in that stretch. He is unbeaten at home, going 6-0-0 with a goals against of 1.50 and .950 save percentage. Overall, Jung is 13-4-0 while sporting the leagues fifth-best goals against average at 2.43. He has spent the last two seasons with the Laredo Bucks, earing 31 total wins with his best campaign in 2010-11 where we went 17-18-3. Currently, Wichita is sitting one point back of Allen for first place with 55 points.
Jung will receive a special gift courtesy of Warrior and the Central Hockey League to recognize his accomplishments.
