Sacramento River Cats News Release
NASHVILLE, TN - The Sacramento River Cats (45-67) took an early lead on a home run from Ryder Jones, but recorded just two hits the rest of the way to drop the series opener with the Nashville Sounds (56-55) 3-1.
The River Cats took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Jones smacked a solo home run to right field. Jones also drew one of the teams' three walks on Saturday as part of a 1-for-3 night. First baseman Jerry Sands and catcher Trevor Brown each singled in the game to account for the other two Sacramento hits.
Sacramento starter Casey Kelly kept the River Cats in the game by allowing just two earned runs in five innings pitched. Despite the solid outing, Kelly left after throwing just 84 pitches in five innings for his shortest outing since June 30 when he also pitched five frames.
The River Cats are back in action tomorrow for the second game of this four-game series against the Sounds. Left-hander Daniel Camarena (0-6, 5.37) takes the mound for the River Cats and the Sounds will counter with righty Daniel Mengden (2-1, 4.43). First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m. (PT). Catch all of the action live online at rivercats.com, on the MiLB First Pitch app, and on the air on Money 105.FM.
Additional Notes
- With his 10th home run of the season, Jones ties Orlando Calixte for third on the team in that category and is the fifth Sacramento batter with at least 10 long balls this season.
- Kelly now has now pitched at least 5.0 innings in each of his last 19 outings dating back to April 22 when he retired just two batters innings against Tacoma.
