Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Tacoma, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers emphatically snapped a seven-game home losing streak, pounding out 13 runs and 19 hits in a 13-1 win over the Oklahoma City Dodgers Friday night at Cheney Stadium.
During the seven-game home skid, Tacoma scored a total of 10 runs. On the other side, the Dodgers had given up a total of nine runs over the previous five games. The 13 runs were the second-most allowed by OKC this season and the 12-run margin of defeat was the team's largest of 2018.
The Rainiers (54-56) tallied seven extra-base hits, including four homers. The Dodgers (60-48) had allowed two or fewer extra-base hits in 17 of the previous 18 games, including the last nine straight. The previous four home runs allowed occurred over a span of nine games.
Tacoma put up two quick runs in the bottom of the first inning. Three of the first four batters collected hits, including a two-run single by David Freitas, giving the Rainiers their first lead of the series.
In the third inning, Tacoma extended the lead on a bloop RBI single with two outs by John Andreoli. Each of the next two batters reached to load the bases, but Daniel Corcino got Ian Miller to fly out and keep the deficit at 3-0.
Corcino wouldn't be as fortunate in the fourth inning. Daniel Vogelbach connected on a two-run homer with two outs, putting the Dodgers down by five.
In the bottom of the fifth, Andrew Aplin came to the plate and hit a fly ball to deep right field. Henry Ramos made a diving attempt to catch the ball near the corner, but the ball went off his glove. As Ramos was down on the ground shaken up, Aplin continued to run the bases. He went all the way around for an inside-the-park home run, making it 6-0.
The Dodgers got into the run column in the seventh inning with a two-out RBI double by Tim Locastro.
Tacoma put the game away with a five-run, six-hit bottom of the seventh inning. Freitas and Seth Mejias-Brean each hit two-run homers, and Ben Gamel added a RBI double, extending the lead to 11-1.
Miller delivered a two-run single with two outs in the eighth inning to finish the scoring.
Tacoma starting pitcher Bryan Evans kept the Dodgers quiet over 6.2 innings, allowing one run and six hits. Evans (4-1) walked one and struck out five.
Corcino (2-3) tied his season high with six innings, but he also tied his season high with six runs and a season-high nine hits. He recorded three strikeouts with two walks.
Rocky Gale was the only Dodger with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with a double. By comparison, eight of Tacoma's nine batters collected two or more hits.
After winning two of three games in Tacoma, the Dodgers will head to Reno to begin a four-game series at 9:05 p.m. CT Saturday. Live radio coverage begins 15 minutes before first pitch on AM 1340 "The Game," 1340thegame.com, or through the free iHeartRadio mobile app.
