Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

Omaha first baseman Frank Schwindel extended his hit streak to 12 with another two-hit game, including a double in his fifth consecutive contest, and catcher Luis Villegas crushed his first career Triple-A longball, however Salt Lake first baseman Matt Thaiss drove in two runs in the Bees' 4-3 victory over the Storm Chasers on Saturday night in front of 8,394 fans at Werner Park.

Both clubs were held quiet until the fifth. Bees C Joe Hudson drew a leadoff walk and SS Alberto Trinfel slapped a single to left before both came across via Thaiss' two-run knock to right to push Salt Lake ahead 2-0. The Storm Chasers would immediately halve the deficit in the bottom of the frame when Villegas crushed his first career Triple-A big fly to left.

Salt Lake, however, would increase the margin to three with a two-spot in the eighth highlighted by RF Jared Walsh 's RBI single to right. Omaha would later narrow the margin to one once again, this time in eighth. SS Nicky Lopez reached on a leadoff walk and moved to third on Schwindel's double to left, his 28th of the year, before both eventually came across on wild pitches. Despite the Storm Chasers' bases loaded threat in the frame, Salt Lake reliever Williams Jerez was able to induce an inning-ending double play.

Walsh (2-4, RBI) was the only Bees batter to tally a multi-hit effort, while Schwindel (2-4, R, 2B) and 2B Humberto Arteaga (2-4) collected two knocks each for Omaha. Schwindel upped his hit streak to 12 and has smacked a double in five consecutive contests. His 28 two-baggers rank him tied for the Pacific Coast League lead with two other players.

Omaha starter Zach Lovvorn (6.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 4 K) suffered the defeat despite tossing his second straight quality outing, yielding two earned runs on four hits in 6.0 innings of work. Bees starter Luis Pena (5.1 IP, 4 H, R, ER, 2 BB, 3 K) earned the win, with Sean Isaac (2.0 IP, R, ER, 2 BB, 2 K) receiving a hold and Jerez (1.2 IP, 3 H, R, ER, 2 K) notching his first save.

Omaha continues their four-game set with Salt Lake on Sunday evening, with first pitch scheduled for 5:05 p.m. CT. The Storm Chasers are set to send LHP Jake Kalish (5-4, 3.21) to the hill, while the Bees' starter has not been announced.
