
Johnstown Doubles Up Cyclones, 6-3

JOHNSTOWN, Pennsylvania - Johnstown Chiefs forward Mike Sgroi registered a hat trick, as the Chiefs claimed a 6-3 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones Saturday night. Ryan Nie stopped 29 shots and added an assist for Johnstown.
The Cyclones ten game unbeaten in regulation time stretch (6-0-4) at the Cambria County War Memorial came to an end with the defeat. Cincinnati had not lost at Johnstown since Jan. 9, 2004 in a 4-2 defeat.
Johnstown opened the scoring with a pair of Mike Sgroi goals to open a 2-0 edge. Sgroi's first came at 3:41 from former Cyclone Greg Gallagher. His second of the night and 21st of the season came at 8:37 on the power play. The Cyclones outshot Johnstown, 7-6, in the opening period.
The Cyclones were able to work their way to within a goal three time in the period. Mathieu Aubin picked up his 26th goal on a penalty shot at 2:00. At 4:24, Randy Rowe scored for Johnstown to open the two goal lead again, his 24th score of the campaign. At the nine minute mark, Chris Ferazzoli added his second goal in as many night from Barret Ehgoetz and Chad Starling, to once again close the gap to within one, at 3-2. Johnstown won the shots on goal battle in the period, 13-9.
The Chiefs scored twice in the third period, to close out the scoring. Sgroi finished off his hat trick at 3:48 and Alexandre Imbeault picked up an empty net goal with 33 seconds to go to seal the game, 6-3.
The Cincinnati Cyclones are 41 games above .500, with a 52-11-5 record and sole possession of first place in the North Division-24 points ahead of second place Elmira. The loss gives Cincinnati a 36-5-3 record since December 15. Johnstown is 33-30-5. The 52 wins are the most ever by the club.
The club heads to Reading for a 5pm game against the Royals on Sunday afternoon. The game will be carried on the internet at: www.cycloneshockey.com.
By winning the North Division, the Cyclones have a bye in the play-in round of the ECHL postseason and will host the winner of the fourth seed-fifth seed, best-of-three series at the end of the regular season. The first game of the best-of-seven series that the Cyclones will play, opens at U.S. Bank Arena on Friday, April 11 at 7:30pm. The second contest (Game âB' will be played the next night-Saturday, April 12).
