Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

Fort Wayne, IN - Catcher Trey Johnston was promoted to Fort Wayne from Peoria, Arizona, San Diego Padres officials announced prior to the Wizards home game against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Seattle Mariners affiliate) tonight.

Johnston was an 18th round selection by the Chicago Cubs in the 2003 June Amateur Draft. He was signed by the Padres organization as a minor league free agent in June of 2004.

Johnston entered this year with a minor league career average of .232, eight doubles, a pair of home runs, 25 runs batted in and one stolen base. He spent the 2003 season with the Cubs' Rookie-level team in Mesa and was with Peoria during the 2004 season.

In four games with Peoria this season, prior to his promotion, Johnston was hitting .077 with one run and one double. He appeared in two games as the designated hitter, one at third base and one at catcher.

With Johnston's addition to the roster, the Wizards now have 25 active players. Third baseman Brett Dowdy remains on the disabled list with a fractured right thumb after being hit with a pitch against the Lansing Lugnuts (Toronto Blue Jays affiliate) on Thursday, June 16.
